They are ultra pimp
Multi-fuel, crazy power density and up to 40% thermal efficiency on their own and up to 60% in COGAS/COGES configurations, 60! Not to mention that are massively less polluting than low/medium speed HMO engines.
Seriously, something the size of a medium duty truck that puts out up to 57,000 hp.
Plus you can put them anywhere like up on the sail instead of down in the ship. I just think these are so rad.
I realize I might be the only one that totally geeks out about these.
Bonus points?
The 4.5 MW version is based on this engine
Also, anyone had a beat on what that “high speed yacht” in the video above is? Can’t find it.

I’m not sure what you mean by HMO engines. I guess these have nothing to do with Health Maintenance Organizations.
BTW, did you know that a bunch of smaller municipal power stations run a variant of the turbines used on the 747?

Heavy Marine Oil, or Bunker oil.
As far as I can tell, LNG turbines running in COGAS are the way to go for medium power generation. Sure they use a lot of fuel, but their emissions are so low and they convert so much of that fuel into usable power.

Dealing with marine turbine generators at work makes me think using a miniaturized one for a plug-in hybrid power plant would increase plug-in hybrid awesomeness by 482%.
Expensve? Oh yes. But would anyone care? I doubt it.

I hadn’t seen the term heavy marine oil, but I’ve dealt with HFO enough.
Yup, CH4 is good stuff when compared to most other combustion fuels. It has really high energy content for its emissions.

So sad Jag didn’t follow through with the Turbine concept on the CX75

Googles CH4, finds this
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Day enriched.

I used to be in the business of power plants, now I’m into wastewater. So anaerobic digestion and methane (CH4) production is important at my job.
Of course, 95% or more of natural gas is methane typically.

That video has two of the more interesting yachts in it.
The DESTRIERO ( image source ).
The Enigma ( image source ).

Thanks! Its a sad state of affairs that these Atlantic crossing yachts are left to rot after their achievements. I guess they aren’t really practical for anything else, but its still sad.
